Best gifts for Mother’s Day…This year Mothering Sunday (or Mother’s Day) falls on Sunday 27 March. The celebration’s origins in the British Isles are believed to go back to the 16th century, when on the third Sunday before Easter everyone would attend a service at their ‘mother church’ – the main church or cathedral in the area. Later, domestic servants were usually given a holiday on that day, both to visit their mother church and to return home to see their families. Walking home along country lanes at the start of spring, they would gather wildflowers from the hedgerows and meadows to present to their mothers.
